Finding Time in Your Busy Schedule (And Making Room for What Matters) Balance Series 3 of 10

Finding Time in Your Busy Schedule (And Making Room for What Matters)

Do you ever feel like you’re running around like crazy, pulled in a million different directions, and completely unsure of what to tackle next?

First, take a deep breath. You are definitely not alone. This is an incredibly common feeling for parents, and it’s usually a gentle sign from your mind and body that it’s time to clear out some clutter from your schedule.

Finding a healthy balance doesn’t mean your life has to be perfect. It just means finding a place where you can enjoy the little things every day, handle life’s unexpected curveballs with confidence, and actually feel content with the amazing job you’re already doing.

For Thank You Thursday, let’s practice a little gratitude for our time by simplifying our days. Here are two practical ways to start freeing up your schedule:

1. Narrow Down Your True Priorities

To find more time, we have to remove the unnecessary things. The ultimate goal is to live a simpler, more peaceful life.

  • Try making a list of everything currently taking up your mental space.
  • Then, bravely narrow that list down to just two or three main priorities.

Focusing only on what truly matters right now instantly removes a ton of stress. For example, if you are juggling a job, studying, saving for a home, and trying to cherish quality family time, it’s completely okay to ask: “Is there something I can put on the back burner for just a little while?” If a hobby or extra project can wait a year, putting it on pause might be the exact gift you need to free up time for your home goals or for distraction-free family time. When you limit the extra noise, you’ll find yourself feeling happier, more relaxed, and excited to get home and play with your little ones before bedtime.

2. Audit Your Daily Routine

Sometimes, it’s really hard to see what we can cut out. If your days feel like they are getting longer and longer, try tracking your time for just a couple of days.

Write out a quick calendar and allocate times to everything you do. If you work a standard block of time, write down exactly what you’re doing hour by hour. You might be surprised to see patterns emerge—like just how many hours get swallowed up by endless emails or minor distractions. Once you see the data, it becomes so much easier to cut back on the time-wasters and protect your schedule so you can clock out on time.

A Little Thursday Thankfulness: Today, let’s be thankful for the power of saying “not right now” to the things that drain us, so we can say a big “yes” to the little moments that fill us up.

What is one small thing you can take off your plate this week to make more room for family giggles?
